No Trash/Recycling Pickup in Swampscott As Contractor Shuts Down

Update: Swampscott officials agreed to a contract with a new vendor and pickups will resume Sat., Sept. 3.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — There will be no trash and recycling pickup in Swampscott through at least Sept. 6 after a North Shore contractor abruptly ended service.

Hiltz Waste Disposal of Gloucester, which has operated trash pickup operations across the North Shore, stopped serving close to a dozen communities. The company said in a statement it's downsizing but will continue operating.

Swampscott officials said residents can drop off separated recycling at Caraustar Recycling at 53 Jefferson Ave. in Salem Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon.
