With five minutes to go in Monday's MIAA Div. 4 North boys basketball semifinal, St. Mary's found itself trailing Hamilton-Wenham, 49-44, and elimination was a distinct possibility. Dennis Bailer and Anthony Silfa had other ideas.
Bailer scored six straight points and Silfa scored five in the last minute as St. Mary's closed the game on a 16-2 run, including the last 11 points of the game, to lead the Spartans to a 60-49 win.
St. Mary's will play either Saint Clement or Manchester-Essex in the North final Friday night at 8 at Emmanuel College in Boston.

Bailer (18) and Silfa (17) combined for 35 points as the Spartans turned back a very formidable opponent.
St. Mary's (18-4) led 29-27 at the half and 42-39 after three. Hamilton-Wenham started the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run to take the 5-point lead, setting the stage for the Spartans' victorious rally.

The St. Mary's girls basketball team plays Bishop Fenwick in the MIAA Div. 3 North semifinals Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hamilton-Wenham.
