Swampscott-Lynn Disabled Veterans Award 2022 Scholarship

The DAV Chapter 64 announced the 2022 DAV Chapter 64 Scholarship Awards Program for the first time this year.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — The Disabled American Veterans of Lynn and Swampscott awarded its $500 scholarship to Lynn English High senior Wilmer Huggins Rivera.

Rivera was awarded his $500 scholarship at a ceremony at the Swampscott Veterans Crossing Building this past Saturday.

Lynn and Swampscott residents who are graduating High school senior or entering an accredited post high school educational institution in the United States can apply for one of the four DAV Lynn Swampscott Chapter 64 scholarship programs. Winners are selected on the basis of their leadership skills, participation in service organizations, clubs, and other student groups at school and in the community and their academic record.

Rivera has also received the Civic Service Award, the American Legion Bronze Medal for Scholastic Achievement, the Daedalian JROTC award, the Rookie of the Year award, the Distinguished Scholastic Achievement award, the Physical Achievement award, and the Seal of Biliteracy.

His extracurricular activities included the Drill Team and PT Team.

Upon completion of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) as a member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard this summer, he plans to attend Salem State University's College of Health & Human Services in spring 2023 as a nursing major.

The DAV Chapter 64 announced the 2022 DAV Chapter 64 Scholarship Awards Program for the first time this year. Under the Program, four $500 scholarships will be awarded. One program is for volunteers in service to veterans and the other is for relatives of veterans.

Each program will provide two awards (one for a Swampscott resident and one for a Lynn resident). More information about the program can be found here.
