Autism Activist Susan Senator To Speak To Parents & Caregivers On May 24 At Tewksbury Library

TEWKSBURY, MA – Susan Senator, one of the state’s leading advocates for autism awareness, will discuss her new book, “Autism Adulthood: Strategies and Insights For A Fulfilling Life,” on Tuesday, May 24, from 7pm to 8pm, at the Tewksbury Public Library.

Parents and caregivers of autistic children are especially encouraged to attend this presentation. Senator will help take the mystery out of adult life on the autism spectrum and convey a positive message that, even though autism adulthood is complicated and challenging, there are many ways to make it manageable and enjoyable.

Senator’s presentation is based on her critically acclaimed new book, which features thirty interviews with autistic adults, their parents, caregivers, researchers, and professionals. Each vignette reveals, firsthand, a family’s challenge, their circumstances, their thought processes, their unique solutions, and plans of action. Sharing the wisdom that emerges from parents’ and self-advocates’ experiences, Senator adds her own observations and conclusions based on her long-term experience with autism.

Senator’s twenty-five-year-old son, Nat, was diagnosed with autism at the age of three, and she has been advocating for people with autism ever since.

Over the past 20 years, Senator has written three books on autism, including “The Autism Mom’s Survival Guide” and “Making Peace with Autism.” She has been published in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, and Education Week. Senator has appeared as a guest on The Today Show, CNN, ABC News, PBS, and NPR. She has also delivered keynotes and speeches for the Autism Society of America, National Autism Center, Harvard Medial School, the Massachusetts State House, the New York State Autism Society, and the Autism Society of the Midwest.

Adults from Tewksbury and beyond are invited to attend this free hour-long event. A Q&A and book selling and signing – for those interested – will take place after the presentation.
