Bestselling Author Michael Tougias To Discuss 'The Finest Hours' On May 26 at Tewksbury Library

Come hear the author speak on May 26, then come back on May 27 to watch the new film based on his book

TEWKSBURY, MA – New York Times bestselling author Michael Tougias will discuss his popular book, “The Finest Hours: The True Story of the U.S. Coast Guard's Most Daring Sea Rescue” on Thursday, May 26 at 7pm.

Disney recently made “The Finest Hours” into a Hollywood blockbuster film, starring Chris Pine, Eric Bana, and Casey Affleck. The library will be screening the film twice, the day after Tougias visits, on Friday, May 27 at 10:30am and 8pm. Movie refreshments will be served.

The book and film tell the real life story of one of the most courageous rescue attempts in American maritime history. As Disney describes it, in February of 1952, one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast struck New England, damaging an oil tanker off the coast of Cape Cod and literally ripping it in half. On a small lifeboat faced with frigid temperatures and 70-foot high waves, four members of the Coast Guard set out to rescue the more than 30 stranded sailors trapped aboard the rapidly-sinking vessel.
