Circle Home offers Free Fall Prevention Clinic at Senior Center

Drop in on Thursday, April 14 between 1:00 and 4:00 PM for your free personal fall risk assessment

Circle Home, Inc. (formerly the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Lowell) will offer a free Fall Prevention Clinic on Thursday, April 14, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Chelmsford Senior Center, 75 Groton Road in North Chelmsford.

The clinic will feature individual fall risk screenings, conducted by Circle Home nurses and therapists, who will recommend safety strategies for each participant. An educational video, "Fall Prevention Bingo," take-home educational materials, and refreshments will be provided.

"Falls are the number one cause of injury and disability among seniors nationwide, and the number of falls is increasing," said Eileen Malloy, BSN, Circle Home's Director of Program Development. "Often there are serious long-term consequences of falls, including loss of independence and reduction in quality of life."

But falls can be prevented, she said.  "This event is designed to offer a convenient and accessible clinical assessment of each individual's fall risk, and suggestions on what they can do to reduce their risk and stay safe."

Because the causes of falls are complex, the clinic will offer connections to other community organizations. Exhibitors will provide information on a variety of products and services, such as medical equipment, home modification loans, stairlift and walk-in tubs, lifelines, outpatient physical therapy, medication management, disability services, and qi gong/tai chi programs.

"We're gathering many resources in one place to make this a helpful event with significant impact," Malloy said.  "There is no cost, no reservations are needed, and everyone is welcome."  She noted that Circle Home will be offering additional clinics in surrounding communities throughout 2016. The Chelmsford Fall Prevention Clinic is made possible by funding from the Greater Lowell Health Alliance.  More information is available at 978-805-2641.
