TGBL 5th Grade Travel - RVL Champs 2016

RVL 5th Grade Tournament Champion Tewksbury!

After starting the season 3-10, the Tewksbury 5A travelgirls basketball team closed out the season on a 7 game win streak includingplayoff victories over Wilmington (36-14), Andover Gold (29-21), Tyngsboro(27-11), and Andover Blue (27-23) in the finals. It was an amazing weekend ofbasketball for “Tewksbury Trouble” as everything they have worked so hard forcame together at the right time. Victoria Lavargna carried the offense for muchof the weekend including a dagger of a three pointer in the finals. VictoriaCatanzano’s return from an injury after a month off provided much neededintensity to the swarming defense. Carrina Barron led the charge on the fast break utilizing her speed tobeat defenses down the court and finish with points. Emily Tryder had a greatweek cleaning up on rebounds and nailing big shot after big shot. Sam Ryan wasa force on defense and offense while demonstrating what a strong overall playershe is. Jamie Constantino is a great example of how improved this team is.Jamie scored key baskets on put back shots all week well cleaning up on theboards. Maddy Montejo was a force using her length to defend the basket andcollect rebounds. Vanessa Green had a great all around performance all week.Riley Veits continues to block shots all over the court and fought hard in thefinals. Katrina Macdonald’s level headed personality really kept things calm inthe closing moments of the Finals and helped ice the title. Mia Bisso scored abig basket early in the opening game of the tournament, and clearly wasfighting through a foot injury that kept her out of the remainder of thetournament. She was at every game to cheer on her team along with fellow teammateKiley Kennedy who had a broken foot earlier in the season. The growth of thisteam as individuals and teammates has been inspirational and it has been a tremendousrun.
