Tewksbury Girls U14-3 Team Finish Second at Commissioners Cup

After finishing their regular season 10-0, the Tewksbury Girls U14-3 team looked to cap their perfect regular season with a strong showing at the Commissioners Cup tournament held in Woburn on 6/18 and 6/19. The girls joined the top teams from all different age groups and Divisions throughout the Middlesex Youth Soccer League to fight it out for top spots in their respective groupings.

The girls took immediate control of their first game on Saturday 6/18 against a skilled Waltham team and controlled the ball movement throughout the game. Their dominant defense, which only allowed four goals against the entire regular season, was rock solid once again and Tewksbury captured their first game 2-0.

In their second game, on 6-19, the girls faced a strong Lowell team and scored first with a few minutes to go in the first half. The teams traded possession for most of the second half and with less than 5 minutes to go in the game, Lowell scored on a corner kick and the game ended in a tie which meant the girls were in a 'must win' situation going into Sunday afternoon’s third and final game.

In their last game vs. Billerica, the first half didn’t yield either team a goal after a great back and forth battle. Knowing a tie wouldn’t be enough, the Tewksbury girls dominated the play the entire second half with a constant barrage of passing and shooting but ultimately were unable to net the decisive goal, and the game ended in a 0-0 tie and an overall second place finish in the Commissioners Cup for the girls respective Division.
