Cafe La Diva Coffee Shop Calling it Quits

The seven-month old coffee and pastry shop in Wakefield is closing its doors.

, the Hollywood-esque artisan coffee and pastry shop on Albion Street in Wakefield is closing its doors after only seven months in operation.

The store has already begun to sell off its property, including coffee and other food products, coffee machinery, tables, chairs and decorations.

While it may seem the store is the latest victim of a stagnant economy, owner Lina Coyle said that's not the case.

"It wasn't because of lack of business, it's a personal matter in the management," Coyle said. "It's a sensative subject, but I want people to know it had nothing to do with customers. There were a lot of people who kept me in business," she said, calling the circumstances of the closing "totally unforseen."

The store, which opened in April 2011, , including bagels from Bagel World in Reading, pizza from Leone’s in Somerville, calzones from J&M in Saugus and pastries from Modern Pastry in the North End. The idea was to provide a comforting atmosphere where people could relax with a cup of coffee, a treat, and some free Wi-Fi.

Coyle said she would ultimately love to open another shop, however, the closing of Cafe La Diva has left her virtually bankrupt.

To help her reclaim some of her lost funds, Coyle is holding a closing sale at the store this week and said she will continue to sell as many items as she can in the next few weeks before finally closing the doors.

"I'm not replenishing anything, and whatever I do have, I'm willing to sell," she said.
