Donald H. Wong Announces Candidacy for Re-election as State Representative
State Representative Donald H. Wong recently announced his candidacy for re-election to the office of State Representative, Ninth District of Essex County. Representative Wong, a third-term Republican, represents the District which includes precincts and wards in the communities of Lynn, Saugus, and Wakefield. Representative Wong announced his candidacy in Wakefield at a gathering of friends and supporters at Brothers Deli. In introducing the incumbent, former State Senator Richard Tisei said he was proud to live in the district represented by Wong, adding that he is available to everyone in the community, regardless of street address. “Anyone who knows Donald, and especially those who have worked with him, knows that he is a great leader, one who is not only dedicated to his district, but to the well-being of everyone in the Commonwealth,” Tisei said in his introduction. “Donald is involved in government for all the right reasons.” In announcing his candidacy for re-election, Representative Wong cited his record during his three terms in office, as well as his experience as a former Selectman for the Town of Saugus, a successful business owner, and his decades-long commitment to the community. Representative Wong has served as a member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee throughout his tenure as a State Representative, and currently serves as a member of the Financial Services Committee. “During my three terms as State Representative, I have been honored to be a member of the House Ways and Means Committee,” he said in making the announcement. “As a result, I have had the opportunity to meet people from throughout the Commonwealth to get first-hand information about their concerns and how the Legislative process affects their lives and livelihoods. I have worked with Republicans and Democrats alike, not only on this Committee, but on the each and every day to do what the people of my District elected me to do. In addition, I am proud of my 100% attendance record for every legislative year, something I pledged to do when first running for this office.” “I am very familiar with the concerns and problems that face both the citizens and businesses,” he added. “I have a mortgage and have put my children through college. I have worked tirelessly to give our citizens and local businesses a better way of life, both as State Representative and as a Selectman.” Among his accomplishments, State Representative Wong cited the following: • successfully fought to reinstate the Wakefield stop on 5:15 Haverhill Express Commuter Rail train; • secured funding of $100,000 for Lake Quannapowitt; • secured $1M bond bill for Main Street; • supported legislation updating the state’s public records law to help create more openness, accountability, and transparency throughout state and local government; • sponsored legislation to allow residents to donate to local veterans’ relief organizations through tax bills; • joined colleagues in filing a Local Aid Resolution to provide municipalities with timely notice of the Legislature’s commitment to support them with local aid; • supported a welfare reform package aimed at increasing oversight of the taxpayer-funded Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) program; • was among the first Legislators to come out against the IT tax, and was one of 33 State Representatives to oppose it, which led to the repeal of the tax; In conclusion, Representative Wong noted that he works on behalf of all constituents on both sides of the aisle. “I am proud to serve all of you and hope to continue that service. I remain forever grateful for your support. Together, we can make our communities a better place to live and work.” For more information about State Representative Donald H.
