Drug Take Back Day Coming Up In Wakefield

The police department will be participating in the national event, which allows for the safe disposal of unwanted or expired medication.

WAKEFIELD, MA — National Drug Take Back Day will be Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Public Safety Building at 1 Union St. in Wakefield.

The Wakefield Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will host the event, which allows the community to drop off unwanted or expired tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs for safe disposal.

"For more than a decade, the event has helped Americans easily rid their homes of unneeded medications that too often become a gateway to addiction," according to a Facebook post from police. "Take Back Day offers free and anonymous disposal at close to 5,000 local drop-off locations nationwide. In partnership with local law enforcement, Take Back Day has removed 9,285 tons of medication from circulation since its inception."
