Local Runner Running Boston Marathon for Pediatric Oncology

Local Runner, Alyssa Marchant, Seeking Donations for Pediatric Oncology. Alyssa Marchant is Running Boston Marathon, April 2017

Former Wakefield Athlete Running Boston Marathon for Pediatric Oncology

My name is Alyssa Marchant and I am a pediatric nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital. I am running the 2017 Boston Marathon for Mass General Hospital’s Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Marathon Team. Cancer kills more children than any other disease. Surviving cancer doesn’t always guarantee a happy ending. Childhood cancer only receives 4% of U.S federal funding for research. For every courageous child I care for and family I meet, my heart breaks knowing that they are about to fight the biggest battle of their life. People always ask me how I do my job or why I take care of sick children. It is a gratifying profession. I get to care for amazing young people whose spirit and smile inspires me to be a better person and enjoy every moment in life. Life is a precious gift and when I get to see my kids go home after their last hospitalized treatment, you can’t imagine the happiness and joy I feel. My goal is to raise money for cancer research and pray that someday someone will find a cure to save our children.
