• Early returns favor Barber and Lipper-Garabedian while Somerville, Cambridge and Malden wait to report (winchesternews.org) — Early primary returns from neighboring towns show Kate Lipper-Garabedian with a strong lead in the Fifth Middlesex Senate race, but Wakefield and key cities like Malden and Melrose have yet to report. Because Wakefield historically supplies a large share of the district's vote, local results will be crucial in determining whether her advantage holds once all ballots are counted. 
• US Sen. Ed Markey fends off challenge from Moulton in Democratic primary (recorder.com) — Wakefield briefly enters the spotlight as Seth Moulton is noted campaigning there just days before losing the Democratic U.S. Senate primary to incumbent Ed Markey. The race, centered on questions of generational change and policy differences, sets up a November matchup between Markey and Republican John Deaton, with other Massachusetts congressional primaries also highlighting similar age and ideology debates.
