PAWS promoting cats and kittens at 2 events on Saturday, September 5

Celebrate Labor Day weekend with PAWS this Saturday, September 5, 9am to 1pm, at beautiful Hall Park on Lake Quannapowitt. While you stroll through the market and shop from local vendors, make sure to stop by the PAWS booth (yellow tent, #36) to chat with our amazing, friendly volunteers and learn how you can support local animals. We’ll have delicious bites for every palate, furry and human alike; giveaway toys; handmade note cards, and other goodies. Plus, you can enter a FREE drawing for a chance to win a tote bag filled with cat-themed toys. Don't miss out! Grab your friends and family, enjoy the gorgeous lake views, and help us make a difference for pets in need. Mark your calendar and we will see you there!

Afterwards, head over to the PAWS office at 411 Lowell Street to meet some of our kittens and cats who are ready to be adopted. You can see many photos and longer descriptions on the PAWS website and Facebook page, but here's a little bit of info on some of them:

Cirrus and Solstice are littermates, both female and 3.5 months old. Cirrus is energetic and endlessly playful and has a beautiful gray and white tuxedo coat. Solstice wears the typical black and white tuxedo, is lots of fun and highly playful!

Davina, also a 3.5 month old female, is a social butterfly who is incredibly active and affectionate! She sports a sleek, glossy black coat accented by a single white chest spot.

Miss Mary Mack (3 months) appears mysterious, wearing all black fur.She’s tiny girl, but also a loving bundle of joy!Her mother, Hopscotch, is still a kitten at 7 months old, and was an incredibly loving mom. She’s a brown and white beauty! And let’s not forget the boys: Oreo & Shiloh are 6-month old bonded brothers! These two sweet boys can be a little shy at first but love to play—bring a sparkly wand for Oreo and a ribbon toy for Shiloh!

Once cats pass 365 days of age, they’re classified as “adults” instead of “kittens”. Two very young, male adult cats will be at the office this Saturday, hoping to their furever home: Taz and Tribble. Taz is 1.5 yrs old and is quiet, shy, but loves gentle head rubs! Tribble, at 2.5 years of age, has a very different personality: he’s never met someone he didn’t like.He is friendly, sweet, and seeking a home where he can get lots of attention and love!

There are a number of cats who aren’t comfortable coming to the office, but can be visited in their foster homes. This week we’re highlighting Zaki, a 4-yr old orange male, who is incredibly gentle, friendly, and playful. He loves zooming through the house with his foster cat brothers, chasing after string toys, and hunting laser pointers. Once he burns off his energy, he is an expert lounge companion who will happily settle in for a long nap on the sofa. Zaki would love to meet you from the comfort of his current home—either this Saturday or at another time that works for you! Come to the office on Saturday or contact us to make an appointment to meet Zaki.

Other cats will be available for in-home or by-appointment visits, and our volunteers in the office can tell you all about them. In addition, you can learn about PAWS’ cats who are awaiting their forever home at the Kitty Cat Café and Adoption Lounge on Newbury St (Rte. 1), Peabody. Before they are made available for adoption, all PAWS cats have had a vet examination, been spayed or neutered, received age-appropriate vaccinations, tested for feline leukemia, dewormed at least once, and microchipped. Other tests and procedures may have been provided, depending on their age and health status when they came into PAWS’ care. Adoption fees vary, depending on the cat’s age, and those fees are listed on the website. PAWS (Protection of Animals in Wakefield Society, Inc.) is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization and foster network, founded in 1982 by the late Esther Nowell. It serves many communities north and west of Boston. Its mission is to promote and protect the rights and well-being of all domestic animals and wildlife, and to foster greater understanding of animal welfare and animal rights through education. The Pet Food Pantry is hosted every Tuesday from 1-5 pm at the office, where PAWS also accepts donations of pet food and supplies, and makes pet-related merchandise available.
