Arrests
Police arrested a Wakefield man for driving with a suspended license on April 9 at 2:10 p.m. Police said they observed a white Dodge Charger, which they recognized as belonging to a Wakefield man with a suspended license, traveling on Main Street. Police said that as they pulled up behind the man, James Walker, 35, of 12 Gene St., he pulled into the parking lot at Greenwood Plaza. Walker allegedly told police he was aware he was driving with a suspended license, but didn’t know how the police knew that. Police said Walker became unruly and continued to shout at police, questioning how they knew he had a suspended license. Walker was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license.

An alleged dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend lead to the arrest of a Wakefield resident on April 9 at 10:20 p.m. Police said they received a call for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, spoke with Douglas Kolz, 40, of 91 Farm Street in Wakefield, who said that his girlfriend had locked herself in the bathroom. Both parties reportedly told the police that after a verbal argument the two were having, Kolz pushed the victim, who fell off the bed and struck her head, causing her to start bleeding. Kolz was arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery.

A Wakefield man was arrested at 3:20 a.m. on April 10 after police reportedly observed him driving a green Toyota Camry over the speed limit on North Ave and Main Street. The operator, identified as David Jay, 28, of 10 Druid Hill Ave, told police he was returning from a birthday party at a local restaurant. Police said that when Jay rolled down the window, they could smell alcohol emanating from his person. Jay reportedly told police he had consumed two beers. Police conducted field sobriety tests and determined that Jay was operating under the influence. He was charged with speeding and a second offense of operating under the influence.

Other Incidents
A Wakefield police officer riding a motorcycle was injured in an accident on April 10 at 4:45 p.m. According to reports, Sgt. Steven Skory was traveling on North Ave when a vehicle backed out of a driveway, striking him. Police and emergency medical services responded to the scene. Sgt. Skory reported having an injury to one of his arms, but otherwise had no other injuries. He was transported to the Lahey Clinic. "Steve's training kicked in, because he laid the bike down instead of trying to avoid the collision," said Deputy Chief Jack MacKay. "He did exactly what he was supposed to do. All of his equipment did as it was supposed to do, and his elbow was not broken," he said. The accident is under investigation by the Wakefield Police Department.
