Town Clerk: Return Your Census Forms
Residents asked to complete and return the town census forms that went out in January.

The following was provided by the Wakefield Town Clerk's office:
Annual town census forms were received last January. Wakefield residents are urged to return their forms as soon as possible.
Response to the census is required under State law, and census information is used for a variety of purposes, including: proof of residency for all legal matters, and assistance for veterans’ benefits, housing benefits, in-state tuition or financial aid for students.

The census also provides safety divisions with accurate and current residence information; it provides estimates of the senior and school populations for planning projections, and ensures the town receives its fair share of state and federal funds and grants.
In addition, returning the census maintains an “active” status for all voters. As stated on the census form, no changes to voter status can be made on the form. A citizen may not register to vote, or change their political affiliation on the census form, but if they write a note, the town clerk’s staff will send a form to accomplish either. However, if a voter is listed as “Inactive”, signing and returning the census form will automatically update that person back to an “Active” voting status.
