Two New Officers Join Wakefield Police Department
Michael Stewart and Joseph Lyons, two WHS grads, have come back to town to serve on the Wakefield Police Department.

Two new officers have joined the Wakefield Police Department - Michael Stewart and Joseph Lyons, both graduates of Wakefield High School.
"We’re very lucky to have them both here, both have a lot of contribute, and they can come right to work immediately," said Chief Richard Smith of the Wakefield Police Department. "When they start, they will go into our field training program so they can reacclimate themselves to the town."
Officer Michael Stewart, WHS '08, attended the Lowell Police Academy, where he graduated in 2010, and has worked for the last two years as an officer with the Merrimack Police Department. He is also currently earning an associates degree in Criminal Justice from Middlesex Community College in Lowell, MA.

Officer Joseph Lyons graduated from Wakefield High School in 1999, and has since served on the Hampton, NH Police Department, and most recently, the Arlington, VA Police Department, and most recently, the Nahant Police Department. He is trained as an EMT, and is an FBI Certified Hostage/Crisis Negotiator. He is currently attending college at the University of Massachusetts - Lowell to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.
"You're joining a wonderful police force working for a wonderful Chief and I know you're going to be bringing your experience and expertise to this community and I think its wonderful," said Chairman Betsy Sheeran of the Board of Selectmen. "Congrats and welcome aboard."
