Unemployment Falls in Wakefield, and Massachusetts
About a percentage point less Wakefield residents were without jobs in March 2012 as compared to a couple of months ago.

More Wakefield residents had jobs in March as compared to January, according to the latest statistics from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
The town of Wakefield had a 6.0 percent unemployment rate in January of 2012, saw a slight uptick in February to 6.1 percent, then dropped more than a full percentage point to 5 percent in March, the most recent statistics available.
Overall, the state's unemployment rate dropped to 6.4 percent in March, down significantly from the 7.5 percent mark posted in February, according to numbers released by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

Although the state overall saw a dip in unemployment, the story is mixed in nearby communities, from Cambridge at nearly full employment (3.3 percent), to above average unemployment in Revere (7.5 percent) and Chelsea (8.7 percent). Neighboring communities to Wakefield such a Melrose saw drops to 4.3 percent, and in Stoneham, 5.2 percent.
