Wakefield Candidates Debate Monday Night

Candidates forum is on Monday, April 1 at WCAT studio A.

The following was provided by Wakefield Community Access Television:

The line up for two live cablecast debates on Monday, April 1st in WCAT’s Studio A, are now set. Candidates for the three seats in contention on the School Committee will debate questions posed by two press representatives from 7 pm – 8 pm. After a half-hour break, five of the six candidates for three seats on the Board of Selectmen will face the same press panel from 8.30 pm – 9.30 pm. Both debates will be carried on WCAT’s government channel.

“The slate of candidates in each race this year promises a spirited and informative debate,” said Producer David Watts, Jr., who is also taking over the duties of debate moderator.

The Press panel will consist of reporter Mark Sardella, Wakefield Daily Item, and editor William LaForme from Wakefield Patch. Participating in the School Committee debate are incumbents Lisa A. Butler and Thomas F. Markham, III, the current committee chairman, who will be joined by candidates Greg Liakos and Evan Michael Kenney. Incumbent Tiziano Doto will be debating along with candidates Shaun S. Margerison, Ann McGonigle Santos, F. Michael Nardone, and Daniel L. Benjamin, Jr. in the Board of Selectmen debate. Former Selectman Phyllis J. Hull is unable to participate in the debate due to a previous commitment. 

The public is invited to view the debates from WCAT’s front lobby and conference room.

The debates will be recablecast on WCAT’s government channel on a regular schedule through April 29. The annual town election is being held on Tuesday, April 30, one week later than originally scheduled, to coincide with the primary election to fill the Senate seat vacated by now-Secretary of State John Kerry.
