Wakefield High School senior Julia Derendal recently committed to George Mason University's Division 1 Track and Field team
Wakefield High School senior Julia Derendal, seated, recently committed to George Mason University’s Division 1 Track and Field team where she will compete as a Mason Patriot during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. She will throw the javelin, discus, and hammer in the outdoor season and the weight in the indoor season at the Fairfax, Virginia school. Joining Julia as she signed her commitment are (back row, left to right) coaches Ruben Reinoso and Justin Berry, her mother and coach Karen Barrett, and coach Greg Gibbs. Julia started competing on the WHS Track and Field team just last year after playing on the Varsity Softball team. She qualified for States, All-States, and Nationals for the javelin just six weeks as a member of the team, and was also named a Middlesex League All-Star in the 2015 season and a Captain in the 2016 season. She will be majoring in Criminal Justice Law & Society and double-minoring in Intelligence and Arabic at George Mason University. Julia Derendal (seated) is flanked by proud family members as she signs her letter of commitment to join the George Mason University’s Patriots as a member of the Division 1 indoor and outdoor Track and Field teams. Joining her at signing are her grandparents, Skip and Marcia Post, and her parents, Karen and Chris Barrett.
