The Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department recently dedicated the William J. Wallace substation on Salem Street

The Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department (WMGLD) recently dedicated the William J. Wallace substation on Salem Street in memory of the longtime Manager of the department. The morning ceremony was attended by several former and current WMGLD employees, members of the WMGLD Board of Light Commissioners and family members (from left to right) WMGLD General Manager Pete Dion, Meghan and Shawn Wallace, Madison and Scott Cooley, Judy Wallace, Bill and Tricia Wallace, Commissioner Ken Chase, Wendy Wallace, and Commissioner Bill Boodry. A 43-year employee of the WMGLD Bill Wallace started his career with the utility in 1964 as the recipient of the department’s Cadet Engineer Scholarship when he was an Electrical Engineering student at Northeastern University. Following his graduation from Northeastern, he was named Assistant Engineer in June 1968. He served the department as an Engineer, Assistant to the Manager, Assistant Manager, and as Manager in May 1976. He retired in June 2007 and passed away in March 2014.
