The Wakefield Rotary Club was thrilled to recognize Elaine Silva as a 2021 Unsung Hero at the regional awards event in early November. Wakefield Rotary Club President noted, “Elaine has served on the Board of Health and Interim Health Director for Wakefield and Melrose. She served steady during the pandemic and took amazing care of our community.” Wakefield Rotary Past President Barbara Worley added, “When it was time for Wakefield Rotary to nominate a local hero for this special event, Elaine Silva came to mind immediately. She served our community at a very crucial time, during the COVID crisis.”

Rotary District 7930 honored 43 heroes from the Greater Boston area, representing 25 Rotary Clubs. Most heroes were recognized for their work during the pandemic including those who worked on food security, mental health, community services, education, and many other essential areas. All awardees exemplified Rotary's motto "Service Above Self". Silva commented, “It was an honor to receive this award, and it was amazing to see the other communities also with the many heroes that have helped to make a difference in others daily lives when needed. Thank you to the Rotary for nominating me for this award.”
