Walpole Historical Home Bathroom Renovation
This is beautiful Craftsman Home built 1915, used as a parsonage many years ago. This feature story is on the main bath in the house, which was last renovated in 40's.
The original claw foot tub was long gone and had been replaced with a retrofit American Standard Cast iron tub in Clair De Lune Blue. During that era Tub Manufacturers offered angled end tubs to retrofit the same foot print as the claw footed tubs, due to door clearance issues in tight quarters. With no options to enlarge the space the tub needed to stay. We had it professionally refinished in to match the new american standard white porcelain sink selected, looked like it was brand new. The refinishing is a nice option for cast iron tubs, than the acrylic style due to costs.
The exterior walls of the home are 12" thick concrete which is the right end wall of the tub. The left end wall is a brick chimney for the summer kitchen in basement, hence the tub spout and shower head ended up in interesting places. The original water supply for the tub was floor mounted. All fixtures were moved to the center of the tub wall with an overhead rain shower and shorter tub spout to make user friendly for bathing or showering. It is the main bath in 5 bedroom home.
The vanity was replaced with a more transitional pedestal top and furniture base with storage shelf from American Standard. They offer a nice collection of smaller vanities for retrofitting. For the walls we installed the bead board higher on walls to enhance the spaciousness of this room, the home owners were amazed that it was the same room.
Other specialty items included a D shaped shower curtain rod, vintage style cylinder wall scones in a crisp white glass.
My services include design layouts, material selection & project coordination.
