Walpole Man Charged with Robbing Norwood Business, Assaulting Employee

Police have released the name of a local man accused of a robbing a local business and assaulting an employee.

Michael Matos, 31 of Walpole, was charged Thursday with assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and armed robbery while masked, according to the Norwood Police Department.

Around 4:30 p.m., on Thursday, officers in Norwood responded to a reported armed robbery at Central Marketing and Travel on Washington Street. An employee stated that an individual wearing a mask entered the store, vaulted over the counter, assaulted the employee, and left after gathering a large amount of cash.

While leaving, Matos allegedly crashed through the counter, leaving glass strewn about the store. After collecting himself, the suspect dashed out the front door and down a side street.

A witness was able to describe Matos’ vehicle, which was sent to local agencies. An officer in Walpole was able to locate the vehicle, but an attempt to stop the car was unsuccessful.

After a pursuit, the car crashed and Matos was arrested.

Another male passenger was questioned but later released.
