Arlington Democrat Announces Candidacy for Register of Deeds

Frank J. Ciano, a general practice lawyer, graduated from Boston College and Suffolk University Law School.

A Cambridge-based general practice lawyer announced his candidacy this week for the Southern Middlesex Register of Deeds.

Frank J. Ciano, an Arlington resident and Democrat, held a campaign kick-off in Cambridge last week, according to a press release issued by Ciano. 

The South Middlesex District, which is currently represented by Eugene C. Brune, is made up of more than 40 communities, including Watertown.

According to Boston.com, Brune is retiring from his post as register after more than 20 years in service. Somerville Alderman Maryann Heuston has also announced her candidacy for the register of deeds position, Boston.com reported.

Former Newton Mayor Tom Concannon Jr. as well as Wakefield resident and Selectmen , Robert B. Antonelli, of Somerville, and Maria Curtatone, of Somerville.

Attorney Frank J. Ciano announced his candidacy for Register of Deeds in Southern Middlesex at a packed campaign kick-off event at the Courtside Restaurant in Cambridge last week. Ciano’s name is confirmed on the September 6th Primary Election ballot after his campaign collected more than 2,000 nomination signatures throughout the district.

Almost 150 friends and colleagues of Frank jammed the event where Frank announced his plans to modernize the Registry:

“By modernizing the Registry and making it easier and more cost-effective to file records, taxpayers will save money and can conduct their business more efficiently. As an attorney, I have stood for ordinary people against major corporations. As Register of Deeds, I plan to keep fighting to make the Registry cost-effective, accessible and responsive to residents”, said Frank J. Ciano.

The Southern Middlesex district covers 44 cities and towns and has more than 734,000 voters. Current Register, Gene Brune, is retiring after 24 years in office.

Frank served as the president of the Middlesex Bar Association and the Cambridge Arlington Belmont Bar Association. He is an experienced General Practice Lawyer who has run and managed his own law office and has been a lawyer since 1976. He is a graduate of the Boston College School of Management and holds a law degree from Suffolk University. Frank is the proud recipient of the Pirandello Lyceum “Best of the Best Award.” He is also Chairman Emeritus of the Dante Alighieri Society of Massachusetts.

Frank is running for Register of Deeds to:

  • Make the Registry more consumer-friendly
  • Clean up the back log in the Lands Division
  • Make electronic mail filings more efficient
  • Act as a consumer advocate
