Banking in the 21st Century

Watertown Savings Bank (WSB) is offering a FREE financial education class through the Watertown Adult Education program this fall. The class will be held over two nights: Thursdays, October 2 and October 9, from 6 to 8 pm at the headquarters of Watertown Savings Bank, 60 Main Street, Watertown Square.

The course is designed to familiarize consumers with best practices for managing money. Banking has changed dramatically over the past decade. It is now all about 24 hour access and connectivity. But many people do not understand how banking systems work and that can lead to expensive overdrafts and poor credit ratings. This course is designed to give people a better understanding of how banks work and how to make better use of the services available to them.

Participants will learn best practices to avoid bank fees, some simple budgeting suggestions, the importance of managing your credit wisely, some investment basics, and ways to protect your identity and your money. Various technologies like online banking and mobile banking will also be demonstrated.

Speakers will include bank officers: Bill Burgess, Troy Joseph, Carole Katz, Sandy Penchansky, and Dick Tatarczuk. Susan Katz from the American Credit Counseling Agency will discuss best practices for managing debt.
