Joint Subcommittee Meeting on Electric Buses in Watertown

A joint meeting between the Committee on State, Federal and Regional Government and the Committee of Public Works has been scheduled to discuss the MBTA Trolley System (electric buses), Routes 71 and 73. 

The discussion will focus on a proposal by the Town of Belmont to eliminate the overhead wires that provide electricity to power the 71 and 73 Trolleys which serve Watertown and Belmont. 

The committees seek public input on the proposal to help decide what opinion Watertown has towards this issue.  The competing solutions which each have noteworthy pros and cons are:

• leave the electricity-power cable in place and continue the status quo
• remove the wires and switch to diesel fuel powered buses
