Everett Man Arrested with Drugs After He Tries to Run Away from Watertown Police

A traffic stopped turned into a foot chase after the suspect ran from his car. Police found drugs when they searched him.

What started as a traffic stop became a foot chase and ended up with the suspect being arrested for drug possession.

An officer on patrol on June 25 at 7:17 p.m. spotted a man going the wrong way on a one-way street and pulled him over at Cross and Winter streets, said Watertown Police Sgt. Thomas Grady. 

When the officer asked for a license, the man said he did not have one and gave false name, Grady said.

"When the officer goes to call in the information and the driver exits the car and flees on foot," Grady said. 

Police searched the area and finally located him under a rear porch of a home on Summer Street, Grady said. He had broken a small door to get inside.

Police took the man, identified as Steeve Jean, 25,of 74 Francis St. Apt. 2 in Everett, to the station to be booked. Jean's car was searched and police found marijuana, prescription pills and what is believed to be crack cocaine, Grady said.

Jean was arrested on charges of failing to stop for police, disturbing the peace, malice destruction of property under $250, driving with a suspended license (a subsequent offense), possession of cocaine to distribute, possession of under one ounce of marijuana, refusing to identify himself and a one-way violation, Grady said.
