Watertown Shows Its Love for Elizabeth Warren at Recent Fundraiser

Around 200 supporters attended an event for Democratic senatorial candidate and raised the third most of any event in the state.

Watertown showed some love for U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren when the local supporters group raised the third most of any event in the state at an event last week.

About 200 people showed up at the Watertown for Elizabeth Warren event on June 21, and the event raised $37,000, said Richard Marcus, co-chairman of the steering committee. He said it was good considering the size of Watertown.

"The second most raised was in Newton, which raised $52,000," Marcus said. "But that is a city of 85,000 where as we have 33,000."

Marcus noted that the Warren campaign gave the group a goal of raising $20,000.

"We raised almost twice that amount," Marcus said.

The turnout was bigger than first expected, Marcus said, which meant a last minute venue change. Just 24 hours before the event, which was first scheduled at a home in Watertown, the fundraiser was moved to the on Nichols Avenue.

Warren did not disappoint the attendees, Marcus said.

"She was wonderful! She is so much better in person," Marcus said. "When she is a room with you it is like she is talking to you."
