Woman Sexually Assaulted Along Watertown Riverside: MSP

State police are looking for a suspect in connection with the assault Thursday afternoon.

WATERTOWN, MA – Massachusetts State Police are looking for a man in connection with a reported sexual assault in Watertown Thursday afternoon. The woman, who is in her 20s, told police she was walking along the riverside roadway on Greenough Boulevard when she was assaulted by 2:45 p.m.

The man rushed her from behind, grabbed her and began to forcibly kiss her, according to police. She said she repeatedly shouted "no" and "stop," tried to break free and get the attention of passing cars, but no drivers stopped. At one point during the attack he indecently touched the victim, police said.

The woman was able to get away and ran toward Grove Street. When she was across the street, she turned around and saw the man walk away in the opposite direction, according to state police.

Investigators believe that prior to the attack the suspect was hanging around a dock on the river, west of the playground at Artesani Park. He is described as a Hispanic man in his early 30s, approximately 5-foot-4, with dark hair and wearing a navy blue hat, gray tee shirt and jeans.

Police said he was drinking beers with an older man prior to the assault. The older man is described as in his late 50s or early 60s, with black and gray hair and facial hair, wearing a red shirt and holding a multicolored hat.

Police did not find the suspect or the older man on the bike paths and lots around Artesani Park and Greenough Boulevard. Any witnesses of the assault or people who may have seen the victim, the suspect or the older man are asked to call police, especially if they were in the area around Greenough Boulevard, Artesani Park, Grove Street or the dock near the playground.

State police urge anyone driving on Greenough Boulevard around 2:45 p.m. to recall seeing the suspect or victim. Officers also ask that a couple walking a golden retriever in the opposite direction around that time try and remember what they saw.
