WAYLAND, MA — Wayland residents will get an update in July on environmental testing at the vacant former DPW garage site at 195 Main Street.
The virtual Public Involvement Plan meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30, and will cover recent PFAS testing, added monitoring wells, groundwater flow, possible PFAS sources and the next state filings for the contaminated property, according to the town.
MassDEP records identify the former DPW garage property as an open Tier I disposal site under Release Tracking Number 3-0037750. The town has posted related documents on its 195 Main Street webpage, including initial site files, Public Involvement Process materials and links to MassDEP records.
The testing involves PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, a group of long-lasting chemicals that can persist in water, soil, air and other parts of the environment, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The July 30 meeting will also include discussion of an expanded site size, seasonal groundwater changes, the scope of work for a Phase II Comprehensive Assessment and future DEP submittals.
