Wayland-Based Native Plant Trust Announces Dance Event, Fall Programs

WAYLAND, MA — A Wayland-based conservation organization has opened registration for a new season of programs featuring native plant conservation, ecological gardening and a collaboration with Boston Dance Theatre.

Native Plant Trust's fall and winter lineup begins in September and runs through March 2027, including classes, field studies, and virtual programs. Boston Dance Theatre will present "Plants: Solos for Native Species" on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Garden in the Woods in Framingham, with performances inspired by individual native plant species.

Four solo performances will repeat throughout the day at different locations in the botanical garden. The event is included with regular garden admission, according to Native Plant Trust.

"Connecting people more deeply to native plants is central to our mission, and art has a unique ability to inspire the curiosity, wonder and sense of connection that spurs us to champion the well-being of our native landscapes," Public Programs Director Sara O'Brien said in a statement.

• Conservation Biology on Sept. 15, 22 and 29
• An Orange Sallow Moth Survey with Zoo New England's Conservation Team on Sept. 26
• A virtual program on the importance of ecoregions on Oct. 1
• Framework Trees of New England on Oct. 16 and 17
• A virtual discussion of plant names on Nov. 5
• Native Hydrangeas on Jan. 7
• Winter Pruning on Jan. 30
• Learn to Mount Herbarium Specimens on Feb. 27
• How Plants Sense and Respond on March 2

The programs cover extinction risks, forest ecology, climate resilience, plant communication, and sustainable gardening.

Native Plant Trust works throughout New England to monitor rare and endangered plants, preserve seeds, control invasive species and conduct research. The organization operates Garden in the Woods, Nasami Farm in western Massachusetts and six public sanctuaries in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
