WAYLAND, MA — New businesses and proposed public-space improvements are expected to boost activity at Wayland Town Center.
The Wayland Town Center plans to welcome a new café and community space, New City Microcreamery and Mathnasium, while pursuing site improvements that could debut in 2027, the mixed-use development announced on Monday. The owners approach the first anniversary of purchasing the property last November.
The Guild for Human Services has signed a lease for 43 Andrew Ave., which has been vacant for more than a decade. The nonprofit will partner with Revival Kitchen & Cafe to open a café serving scratch-made food and coffee.
The café will also offer jobs to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities supported by The Guild. An opening date was not announced.
New City Microcreamery will move into the former Takara space and expand its menu. The business also operates a location in Hudson.
Mathnasium will open an after-school math learning and tutoring center in the former Supercuts space. The Town Center team did not announce opening dates for either business.
Plans submitted to the Wayland Planning Board earlier this summer call for upgraded gateway signs, a pedestrian-focused Elissa Avenue, new uses for undeveloped areas and a stronger connection to the Rail Trail.
The Town Center team said it hopes to secure approvals soon and introduce the improvements in 2027. Other concepts under consideration include an ice-skating rink developed with the Eliza J. Norton Foundation, an enclosed off-leash dog park and recreation areas for local sports teams and clubs.
Wayland Town Center has also expanded its public programming through a partnership with Arts Wayland. The next Wayland Festival is scheduled for Oct. 3.
