WAYLAND, MA — Wayland officials will join local business owners this week to celebrate the grand re-opening of a popular restaurant at its new location.
Takara Japanese Restaurant has relocated within Wayland Town Center to 21 Andrew Ave. after previously operating on Elissa Avenue. The former location was closed from Monday through Wednesday of this week to prepare for the move.
The new Andrew Avenue space was previously home to a Panera Bread and later Wayland Bagel Table, which opened in 2021 and closed in June 2025. Bagel Table continues to operate locations in Ashland, Boston Landing, Maynard and Natick.

Takara was opened in 2007 by owner Jacky Zheng, starting as a small space with just a few tables and a sushi bar. The name “Takara,” which means “treasure” in Japanese, reflects the restaurant’s focus on more than just its food, according to the restaurant's website.
The Wayland menu features sushi bar specials, along with warm and cold appetizers, tempura, katsu, noodles and teriyaki dishes.

In addition to its Wayland location, Takara operates two other Massachusetts restaurants: one at 538 Washington St. in Canton and another at 1 Green St. in Medfield.
Town officials are inviting community members to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new location on Thursday, April 30 at 1 p.m. While RSVPs are not required, they are encouraged. Those interested can RSVP by emailing Town Planner Robert Hummel at rhummel@wayland.ma.us.
