NESN and the Red Sox had a great idea: Let's have the fans all bring their homemade signs to a game and Jerry and Don will pick the best one. The winner will get a bunch of great prizes. What could be better?
Unfortunately, I'm not very artistically inclined, and I don't have a lot in the way of creativity. So, why did I think I even had a chance to win those great prizes?
Maybe this is where my optimism comes in. My husband wanted to get rid of our tickets after hearing of the sign contest. He did not want to sit behind some huge signs. Surely this contest was going to interfere with his enjoyment of the game. I should have listened. But, I didn't.

I bought some poster board and designed a fantabulous sign (pictured). The contest rules set forth the sign technical requirements and how the winner would be chosen. The sign message was supposed to express love for the Sox, Fenway Park or your favorite player. Of course, since Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo were the judges, I figured a little inconspicuous shout-out to them couldn't hurt.
Apparently, I was one of the few fans that read the contest rules and took them to heart. The judges didn't even seem to be aware of the rules!

Fenway was a sea of signs, and I don't think my sign even made it on television! The people sitting in the row right in front of us had three huge signs and they were taller than me! My arms were sore by the thrid inning from standing and holding my sign up each half inning. It got old ... fast. And I wasn't the only loser. The Sox were losing again.
The series with the Rangers was so much more important than the silly sign contest and it did not go well. The Sox threw away their lead in our division. This means that they will have to play the wildcard series. Guess who they will play in that series? You guessed it...the Rangers! Seems I'm not the only one that can't catch a break!
