Stretch and Strengthen to Play Your Best Tennis

Learn some helpful tips on warmup, stretching and strengthening that can help improve your tennis game this summer.

So many people in Wayland love playing tennis this time of year. If you want to play your best, don't forget to stretch and strengthen your body in ways that will help your game.

Warmup: On the court or sidelines, start making the same movements you will be making during your practice or match. Use your arms and legs to warmup for about 3-5 minutes.

Stretch: In addition to the standard hamstring and quadricep stretches, interlock your fingers and stretch overhead to get your upper back, shoulder, and wrists ready. Face away from a wall and twist to get both hands on the wall. This will stretch your muscles you need to twist and reach.

Strength and agility: Add lat pulldowns to your routine to strengthen these muscles you use in serving and overhead shots. Add side to side shuttle runs and ladder drills to work on your hip strength and lateral speed on the court.

Be prepared, and you will play your best, and have fun! Leave a comment or contact me at if you have a question.
