Their Astonishment at My Family Treasures
My family treasures are worth more than my kids often expect.

My children were always complaining about "my treasures" stored in the attic and elsewhere. My treasures are numerous -- long-ago worn bridesmaid dresses, college textbooks, wedding invitations from friends and relatives, my father's textbooks, letters from his mother dated 1935 and 1936, and his wallet to name a few.
Oh, I donated the bridesmaids dresses to Goodwill a few years ago, gave away SOME of my college textbooks and some of the wedding invitations were sent to still married couples, complete with accompanying matches (long ago, there were matches at every wedding), newspaper notices, birth announces, etc. to name just a few of the special moments collected. My friends and relatives LOVE receiving these special memories!
I refuse to "dump" moments from my life -- my doll carriage; my Girl Scout badges; my report cards; my college acceptance letter and diploma; my wedding dress and shoes and my going-away outfit complete with shoes, hat and pocketbook! Just to name a few of my "treasures."

I won't get rid of the totes that hold my children's past nor part of my parents' household! One of these days my children have only to pick up a few boxes and see their early lives displayed before them.
My memories are all cataloged and neatly packaged in the attic. Anyone have a smoking jacket? My father had one and I saved it - yes I did! You should see the looks of astonishment on the faces of my grandchildren when I bring out the smoking jacket and the long-handled cigarette holder my mother once used.

Grandparents and parents - SAVE YOUR TREASURES! Ok, maybe not bridesmaid dresses, but pass on your memories and treasures to the next generation and the next and the next and the next ...
Our grandchildren are now playing the our kids' Candyland, Clue, Scrabble, Lite-Brite, Fisher-Price, etc. toys. Now our kids call and ask, "Hey Mom, do you have this or that - can you send it to me?"
How about the Pac-Man and E.T., T-shirts they now want. Hah, the tables have turned!
Wait until one of them finds out one of my "treasures" may be worth $100,000 on Antiques Roadshow.
Revenge!
What are your "treasures?" What are you grateful that your parents held on to long after you tried to convince them to get rid of it?
