Claypit Elementary Gets New Principal

The following was submitted by Superintendent of Schools Paul Stein:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Christie Harvey as the new principal of the Claypit Hill Elementary School, beginning July 1. Ms. Harvey brings years of experience as a teacher and expertise in the field of special education. She is currently the assistant principal of the Countryside School in Newton, a school of approximately 465 students. In addition, Ms. Harvey is working on her doctorate at the American International College, where she previously earned her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies. She received her master’s degree in education from Lesley University and her bachelor’s degree from the Tennessee Technological University.

Ms. Harvey’s references reported that her kind, calm, and caring demeanor shine through in all her interactions. They reported that students view her as a resource and a source of comfort. Teachers experience her as an astute observer in the classroom whose feedback has helped them in their professional growth. She is described as a well-versed educator, a good listener, a reflective practitioner, and a resolute leader informed by strong values. As described by staff members who work closely with her, those values always put first what’s best for children.

I want to thank the Selection Advisory Committee, as well as the many people who participated in this process by interviewing the candidates during their visits, filling out surveys and feedback sheets, and sending me comments with their thoughts and impressions. Claypit Hill is a terrific school bolstered by a highly supportive community, one in which Ms. Harvey is enthusiastically looking forward to joining. Please join me in welcoming her to Wayland.
