ICYMI: No Signs Wayland Teen's Trump Support Has Wavered

A teen whose family had a gigantic purple Trump sign up throughout the campaign reflects on how the president is doing so far.

WAYLAND, MA — Back before Donald Trump was even named the Republicans' presidential nominee, a Wayland family proudly displayed a huge purple "Trump" sign in their yard. It was so big it even prompted the now-president to tweet about it as possibly the "largest presidential campaign sign of 2016."

The sign sat out there 24-7, with six lights illuminating it by night.

It brought some controversy and opposition, with Addison Antico, then a Wayland High sophomore, vocally defending his family's choice. The sign has been taken down, but it's in storage if Trump decides to run in 2020.

Patch checked in with Antico, now a junior, to see how he feels Trump has done so far.

"I think he's done an amazing job in his first 100 days," Antico said. "I'm happy that he is keeping his word and that he is already bringing back jobs. I'm also very happy that he is staying in touch with the American people, whether it's using Twitter or having rallies, unlike most presidents who don't talk as much once they get into office. I've also been very happy about his decision to take military action against Syria after the chemical attack against children."

Antico remarked that he's impressed with Trump's "flexibility and patience" thus far, citing the example of being willing to meet with North Korea leader Kim Jong Un and not fully committing to going to war with North Korea, "but instead is being prepared just in case North Korea decides to attack. President Trump is making a clear message to the world that the U.S. will not tolerate nonsense and if rules are broken the U.S. will do something about it and not stand by."

Antico said his family's support of Trump is still very strong, and while he still has to defend this support to others, mostly he lets criticism "roll off my back." At the end of the day, he said, Trump is the president and it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

"He is doing exactly what he said he was going to do," said Antico. "At the end of the day, we are all Americans. Not Democrats and Republicans, but Americans. We all are on the same team."
