A look back at the headlines for Wayland Public Schools in 2011.

A new superintendent, construction on a new high school, a bear and more took place with Wayland Public Schools in 2011. Here's our look at some top stories.

1.  (Jan. 25)
A lengthy search process led to three finalists and ultimately to the selection of Dr. Paul Stein, then deputy superintendent of Newton Public Schools, as the next superintendent of Wayland Public Schools.

2.  (June 8)
Dr. Gary Burton retired as superintendent of Wayland Public Schools after serving in the position for 17 years.

3.  (Nov. 28)
Each Wayland High School student will be equipped with a laptop computer for school and personal use. The process is expected to being in FY13, but the complete implementation is under discussion.

4. (June 1)
A wayward black bear spotted near some schools in Wayland led schools to keep the students inside until the bear had moved on.

5. (Dec. 17)
Students moved into the new building following the December vacation, but residents had a chance to tour the school in mid-December.
