Marina Keegan Book Posthumously Published
Keegan, who grew up in Wayland, died at the age of 22 in a car crash. Her posthumous book "The Opposite of Loneliness" comes out Tuesday.
The words of Marina Keegan are living on after the 22-year-old Wayland native died in a tragic car crash.
"The Opposite of Loneliness" is a posthumous collection of Keegan's writing. The book will be released Tuesday.
Keegan died May 26, 2012—just days after graduating from Yale University.
The title of her book comes from the last essay she wrote for Yale's student newspaper.
"We don’t have a word for the opposite of loneliness, but if we did, I could say that’s what I want in life," she wrote. "What we have to remember is that we can still do anything. We can change our minds. We can start over ... The notion that it’s too late to do anything is comical. It’s hilarious ... We can’t, we MUST not lose this sense of possibility because in the end, it’s all we have.”
Her essay received global attention after her death, as friends and family gathered in Wayland for her memorial service.
The New Republic praised "The Opposite of Loneliness."
"It’s just so obvious that Keegan would have been—would have continued to be—a star," the magazine wrote.
