Mass.Doc, Wayland Native, Shows Positive Signs After Ebola Diagnosis

Dr. Rick Sacra, who is from Holden and a native of Wayland, was the third American doctor doctor diagnosed with the ebola virus after working in Libera.

Nearly a week later, Sacra’s wife, Debbie, said that Sacra was able to eat some breakfast, has listened to music, and is tolerating the research drug he has been given well, according to NECN.

Dr. Sacra has been at the Nebraska Medical Center since last week, and doctors are unsure if he will recover from the virus.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the 2014 ebola outbreak is the biggest in history, and also the first in West Africa. It is affecting multiple countries in West Africa. As of Aug. 31, the CDC reported 3,707 known cases of the disease.
