WAYLAND, MA — A proposal unveiled this week by state Senate Democrats would collect Marlborough, Sudbury and Wayland into a new district, a change from the three Senate districts now in place.

The Senate plan is a response to new U.S. Census population figures released late this summer. State House leaders this week released a separate plan for new districts, which includes creating a new House district around Framingham. That plan would also entail shifting state Rep. Danielle Gregoire's Fourth Middlesex District east into the north side of Framingham.

Today, Wayland is located entirely in Sen. Becca Rausch's Norfolk Bristol and Middlesex District, which extends all the way to North Attleborough. Sudbury is split almost in half with state Sen. Michael Barrett's Third Middlesex District on the north end, and Sen. Jamie Eldridge's Middlesex and Worcester District to the south.

If the new Senate plan is approved, Wayland and Sudbury would join a district that includes Marlborough, Hudson, Maynard, Stow, Acton, Littleton, Harvard and Ayer.

With an eye on the one-year residency requirement to run for state representative, House and Senate leaders are aiming to wrap up the once-a-decade process of redrawing state legislative lines by early November.
