Pedestrian Struck on Route 27; Woman Medflighted to Hospital With Serious Injuries

Breaking: Emergency crews responded late morning to an accident in which a driver from Maynard struck a woman in the roadway.

WAYLAND, MA—A woman was flown to a nearby hospital after sustaining serious injuries from being struck by a vehicle on Route 27 in Wayland on Friday.

At 11:39 a.m. on Oct. 7th, Wayland police and firefighters responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Route 27 (Main Street) near the intersection of School Street. The vehicle had been traveling south on Route 27 and struck the pedestrian in the street.

The pedestrian was identified as a 35-year-old woman from Wayland and sustained serious injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, said police. She was treated by the Wayland Fire Department ambulance personnel and then transported to the Cochituate Ballfield where she was transferred to a MedFlight helicopter that brought her to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.

The accident is still under investigation. The operator of the vehicle was identified as a 73-year-old female from Maynard. The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk.

Main Street was closed at School Street for approximately forty minutes. The accident is being investigated by Wayland Police’s Accident Reconstructionist Officer Mark Wilkins. No determination as to the cause of the accident has been made at this time.

The name of the victim and the driver of the vehicle are being withheld, pending notification to family members.
