Snow Days: Will Schools Use Holidays or Saturdays to Make it Up?

How many snow days has Wayland had to take so far? And how will they make it up?

There was no escaping it, and chances are, it isn’t over. The T has been affected. Flights. Driving. Parking. Tickets, hurting backs and missing work days. The blast of blizzards have done a number on New England.

It seems like more, but Wayland public schools have closed only four days so far this school year. That pushes the last day of school, as of now, to June 22.

Superintendent Paul Stein said that while some had suggested alternatives to extending the year, it’s too early to determine that.

“There have been a couple of people who’ve asked whether we would consider alternatives to extending the year in June -- which would mean looking at school holidays or Saturdays,” said Stein. “At the end of the snow season, we’ll be better able to assess whether such alternatives make sense, as it is now too early to put forward any specific proposals.”
