Training capuchin monkeys as service animals

“HELPING HANDS: MONKEY HELPERS FOR THE DISABLED”
On Tuesday, November 5, at 7:30 p.m, Megan Talbert, Executive Director of Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled, will be at the Wayland Library describing how her organization raises and trains capuchin monkeys as service animals to assist people living with paralysis. Ms. Talbert will be joined by Wayland resident Lynn Trimby, who serves as Treasurer of the organization. Using photos, film clips, and anecdotes, this presentation will detail Helping Hands’ in-depth training and placement techniques, the incredible effects of the human-animal bond, and how the program evolved from an experimental project to a national organization– the only one of its kind in the world. Another Wayland resident, Susan Keyes, serves as the organization’s Chair.
