Wayland Celebrates America's 250th Anniversary With Book Talks, Nature Walks

The series titled "Tracing Liberty: History Talks and Nature Walks" will host events from February to July.

WAYLAND, MA — The town and the Wayland Museum and Historical Society have announced a new series to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America.

The series titled "Tracing Liberty: History Talks and Nature Walks" is in collaboration with Wayland250 and Wayland Free Public Library. It will feature book discussions and a nature walk, and will be free and open to the public.

The book discussions, offered in person and on Zoom, will be held on the first Wednesday of each month. The events will be held in the Raytheon Room at the Wayland Free Public Library, 5 Concord Rd. The only one that will not be held there is on Feb. 4, which will be at the Wayland Museum at 12 Cochituate Rd.

Here are the details for the book discussions:

  • Feb. 4: Lydia Maria Child: A Radical American Life by Lydia Molan
  • Mar. 4: Silent Sprint by Rachel Carson
  • Apr. 1: Sleeping with the Ancestors by Joseph McGill
  • May 6: Warrior Girl Unearthed by Angeline Bouliey
  • June 3: Precious & Adored: Love Letters of Rose Cleveland &
    Evangeline Simpson Whipple, 1890–1918
    by Tilly Laskey
  • July 1: Selections from the Experience of Wight Richardson Diary

A limited number of copies of most selections are available at the Circulation Desk at Wayland Free Public Library.

Nature walks will take place at 9 a.m. on specific days at the end of each month. Here are the details for the walks:

  • Feb. 22: Cow Common, 64 Old Sudbury Rd.
  • Mar. 29: Mainstone Farm Trail, 196 Rice Rd.
  • Apr. 26: Historic District, Wayland Museum, 12 Cochituate Rd.
  • May 31: Lake Cochituate, 25 Parkland Drive
  • June 28: Dudley Woods Trail, Pond Drive and Doran Road
  • July 26: Alpine Field and Castle Hill Trail, 16 Alpine Road

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with the Wayland Museum and Historical Society on this series to continue the 250th celebration of America," Town Manager Michael McCall stated in a news release. "I encourage the public to attend these events to learn the rich history of the history of the American Revolution and Wayland.
