Wayland Is Designated As A Purple Heart Community

Wayland has earned a new, prestigious designation.

WAYLAND, MA—Wayland's got a new designation, and one of which to be proud.

Wayland is now a Purple Heart Community, as indicated by some new signs around town.

The signs are the culmination of a program sponsored by the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Department of Massachusetts, and the national organization in order to get all three hundred and 51 Massachusetts cities and towns designated as Purple Heart Communities, according to an announcement from the town.

Wayland became a Purple Heart Town in May of 2015, making this one of the most Veteran friendly towns in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The process started with a Proclamation approved by the Board of Selectmen, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Massachusetts State Legislature, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation District Three.
