Wayland Police Chief Search: Residents Asked To Take Survey

Wayland has launched a new survey to probe what characteristics residents want in the next police chief.

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland residents are getting an opportunity to give their opinion about what type of police chief the town should hire.

Last week, Wayland opened a survey to residents asking for input on characteristics the new chief should have. The survey asks residents to rank qualities like emergency management planning, honesty and integrity and knowledge of the state's new police reform law.

Former Wayland chief Patrick Swanick retired in November, and Sean Gibbons, a lieutenant in the department, took over as interim chief. Swanick spent 30 years with Wayland police, working his way up to chief from 911 dispatcher.
