Wayland Summer Program Now for Middle Schoolers
Students entering sixth and seventh grade can participate in Pegasus for the first time this summer.
The below is a submitted press release.
Pegasus, the Wayland Public School system's summer enrichment program, is expanding its age groups and will debut an Entering Grades Six and Seven Program when the 19th year of Pegasus begins on June 25. The decision to create the new program was based on interest from children who had "aged out" of Pegasus.
The activities chosen tap into interests of children this age while aiming to open some new avenues for exploration. Participants will be able to pursue their interests through a number of activities, ranging from art and television production to community service, marine science and outdoor activities.
There will be fields trips on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Wednesdays, children can continue their interests in Studio Arts or Television Production, with the schedule allowing time for being immersed in an activity, whether it be Studio Art or Television Production. TV will be held in the state-of-the-art WayCAM studio at Wayland High School, where children will learn to use the new virtual sets, teleprompter and high-definition video cameras. On Fridays they will participate in Pegasus's special events.
Please check the calendar, included as a PDF with this article, for sessions and dates for the various trips scheduled. Activities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Touring historic Fenway Park
- Kayaking on the Charles River
- Hiking at Hale Reservation
- Attending a Marine Biology Day at Northeastern University
- Decordova Sculpture Park and Museum
- New England Sports Academy
- The New England Pirates Museum
